Curriculum

The Pharmacist Education Program consisting of the Undergraduate Pharmacy Study Program (PSSF) and the Pharmacist Professional Study Program (PSPA) of the University of Surabaya is designed with reference to the ten areas of pharmacist competency in the Indonesian Pharmacist Competency Standards (2016) and the National Higher Education Standards from the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education no. 44 of 2015, SNPT no. 50 of 2018 which was later updated by Permendikbud no. 3 of 2020, and the Guidelines for Developing the Undergraduate Program Curriculum at the University of Surabaya (Rector's Decree no. 408 of 2014).

The general course structure consists of 4 (four) types of courses, namely (1) compulsory courses at the University of Surabaya, (2) basic courses, (3) integrated courses that combine pharmaceutical science with clinical pharmacy (Integrated Course: Pharmaceutical Science & Clinical Pharmacy), (4) elective courses.

The arrangement of the course structure is also carried out by considering various pharmacy course structures that exist in the world, for example from the PharmD Degree Program, School of Pharmacy, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University, Australia which use integrated lectures with themes of organ systems and disease groups. In the course structure in the Ubaya Pharmacist Education Program curriculum, the themes are arranged based on the pharmacotherapy themes listed in the blueprint matrix of the Indonesian Pharmacist Competency Examination. The placement of the themes of each integrated course in the semesters is attempted to be in line with the semesters in which the organ system theme is taught at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Surabaya to facilitate collaboration in Integrated Professional Education (IPE) between PSSF students and Undergraduate Medical Study Program (PSSK) students in the learning process.

The course structure that contains integrated courses with certain themes is the answer to stakeholder needs for graduates' integrative abilities and meets their competencies. Based on the research results of Islam et al. (2016) regarding 'Basic and Clinical Science Courses in US PharmD Programs', integrated courses are more suitable for developing skills in solving problems in the world of work; able to support the process of analysis, synthesis and evaluation of information; able to integrate students' knowledge, skills and attitudes; provide relevant learning experiences and facilitate learning at a higher level.

Competencies

• Competence to explore, analyze, utilize, prepare and deliver drug information;
• Competence to analyze compounds in biological, food, beverages, PKRT and environmental contamination
• Competence to identify, analyze and solve problems in pharmaceutical sciences;
• Competence to design rational drug therapy to support quality pharmaceutical services;
• Competence to design, create, develop and ensure the quality of pharmaceutical dosage;
