About Program


Product Management and Design is a study program that synergizes industrial design and product management including communication design. The program aims to answer the current phenomenon of a product is acceptable and can compete in the market if the product has an innovative design and is also supported by appropriate product management. To be competitive in the market, innovative design is surely required by taking into consideration various aspects of demography, functions, activities, operating procedures, product value, ergonomics and safety, appearance, aesthetics, engineering, technology, materials, production, economics, psychology, environment, performance, law and order, health, intellectual property, consumer protection, product classification, standardization, product quantity, history and chronology, and socio-cultural. In addition, there are other factors that will influence whether certain product is acceptable and excel in the market such as product launching moment, when the previous version product should be replaced with the new ones, new variations that can be added to the product, selling price, and some other factors. Therefore, appropriate product management is also one of the success keys of a product besides its innovative design. The Product Management and Design study program equips students with a wide range of subjects in industrial design aims to enable students in designing a product that is convenient and meets the aesthetic aspects to be mass produced. Product Management subject is taught to prepare students to be capable of designing and evaluating a product launching into the market as well as planning campaign activities to maintain the product sustainability on the market. Meanwhile, in order to increase product value by utilizing the supporting elements such as packaging and advertising, students are equipped with a variety of communication design subjects. Graduates of the study program are expected to manually and computerized master the product design and development by considering various aspects in a comprehensive manner from the beginning to the end of the process cycle and to master the product management starting from defining new products, bringing products to market, till planning the product sustainability that generates profits. The products that have been designed by the study program are extensively used by the public or consumer products such as household appliances, furniture, health equipment, transportation equipment, educational equipment, toys, sport equipment, and other similar products. In order to build the competencies, the learning process is delivered through a combination of theory and practice. In addition to the face-to-face learning, project-based and laboratory-based learning are carried out.Available studio and lab facilities to support learning in the Product Management and Design program are Manual Drawing studio; Product Development lab; Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing/Engineering lab; Modeling lab; Work Design and Ergonomic lab; Teaching Industry; Engineering Materials Science lab; Manufacturing Process lab and Photography lab. All the teaching staffs have educational backgrounds relevant to the product management and design field. In addition, they earned the bachelor, master, or doctorate degrees from leading national and international universities.
