About Program

The Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education through the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 131/KPT/I/2015 dated March 29 2016 determined the opening of the UBAYA FK which was organized by the University of Surabaya Foundation. This decision was followed up with the issuance of University of Surabaya Chancellor's Regulation Number 104 of 2016 on March 30 2016 concerning the Establishment of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Surabaya. With this regulation, FK UBAYA becomes the 8th faculty and also the youngest within the University of Surabaya (UBAYA).

In facing the demands of advances in medical science which are developing very quickly and responding to the challenges of the industrial era 4.0, as well as competition from medical education institutions which are increasing in number, FK UBAYA aims to build its excellence in the field of the latest medical technology.

FK UBAYA is determined to contribute by preparing its graduates to be able to apply knowledge that is in line with actual developments in the world of medicine to improve the quality of public health. Therefore, FK UBAYA equips its students with knowledge of biomedical technology, and provides learning experiences to develop scientific and technological literacy skills. As an effort to complete the competencies of future medical graduates, students at FK UBAYA also gain interprofessional education learning experiences so that they will be ready to become part of a collaborative team in health services. This determination is supported by Human Resources who have expertise in this field, both from UBAYA itself and through collaboration with other institutions.

FK UBAYA actively and dynamically develops a learning curriculum that is in line with the vision and mission of the Faculty which is carried out through the integration of Medical Technology content into the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education, an elective block that provides opportunities for students to undertake research internships related to FK excellence at FK UBAYA partner institutions both at home and abroad, increasing human resource capacity and supporting infrastructure. Various development efforts continue to be carried out, such as adding biomedical laboratory equipment, developing a clinical skills lab (CSL), so that it meets the requirements to become a national Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) location. Likewise for the computer laboratory which has been used in the national Computer Based Test for Student Competency Test for the Medical Professional Program (UKMPPD).

Various collaborative efforts with various educational and non-educational institutions have also been increased to expand access with the aim of increasing institutional capacity and human resources. Currently, FK UBAYA has collaborated with educational institutions abroad such as Australia, the Netherlands and Thailand in strengthening the Tridharma of Higher Education. FK UBAYA also collaborates with RSUD Ibnu Sina Gresik, RSUD Prof. Dr. Soekandar Mojosari, RSJ Dr. Radjiman Wediodiningrat Lawang, and Community Health Center as a vehicle for Young Doctor Education. UBAYA Hospital, which has been operating since 2023 and is the youngest to join as a vehicle for education and strengthening Tridharma PT activities for UBAYA FK lecturers and students.

Curriculum

The Faculty of Medicine, University of Surabaya adheres to a block system, where courses are arranged and presented over 16 weeks in blocks of time. The Medical Education Study Program (PSPD) curriculum at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Surabaya consists of 2 stages, namely the academic stage which produces a medical degree and the medical professional education stage or professional stage which will end with the awarding of a doctor's degree.

The academic stage is taken for 8 semesters (144 credits) consisting of basic medical education and integrated medical science which is arranged in modules given from semester 1 to semester 7. Each semester is filled with courses carried out using a block system and courses that are carried out using a regular lecture system (non-block).
The next stage is the medical professional education stage which consists of clinical rotation I and clinical rotation II for 4 semesters (semester 9 to semester 12). In professional education there are elective clinical rotations domestically and abroad. This stage of medical professional education is the clinical clerkship stage which is carried out in teaching hospitals and network hospitals as well as other health facilities. Rotation will be carried out in each department/section within the hospital and community services. In this case, competency achievement is achieved by using patients under the supervision of specialist doctors as lecturers.

The Medical Education Study Program has domestic and overseas elective courses presented in semesters 5 and 6. Apart from that, there are courses that contain interprofessional education and medical technology learning.
